CONSULTATIONS

YOUR SLEEP IS OUR ART

When is it time to seek help?
Your first port of call when it comes to sleep problems should be your GP. If this approach does not give any satisfactory results, specialists will be able to establish a diagnosis, advise you and offer you personalised treatments. The majority of pathologies respond to customised treatment.

Why resort to sleep specialists?

Since night-time is a period of unconsciousness during which the patient himself does not realise what is happening to him, it is difficult to extract a detailed description of his problems directly from him.

So, we developed a series of technical medical tools to observe patients’ sleep during the night, aimed in particular at measuring the brain’s activity and breathing as well as observing the patients’ movements during the night. We record their noises and speech to enable the specialist to analyse these physiological signals and potentially establish a diagnostic related to the sleep disorder.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A CONSULTATION

Complaints related to sleep disorders apply to a period in our lives when we are unconscious. We advise you, when possible, to come with someone who witnesses your nights in order promote a more detailed analysis.

We resort to what we call an anamnesis, where the sleep specialist asks questions and direct the conversation. We may also use standard questionnaires to go further in the symptom analysis. These questionnaires give the sleep specialists information on the presence of a symptom, its frequency, its intensity and if it is related to other symptoms that might confirm a diagnosis.

At the end of the consultation we will offer a two-options strategy. Either the diagnosis is clear and we start treatment, or we must continue with the investigation work with tools that will enable us to confirm or establish a more precise diagnosis.

The patient is called-in again to hear the results and discuss treatment protocols with the sleep specialist.
